Interests
Adam is a first year PhD student focusing on electromagnetically-actuated musical instruments. His work often involves feedback, analog circuits, custom PCBs, and strings. When building or augmenting musical instruments, he uses digital fabrication (CNC Machining, 3D printing, laser cutting) in tandem with traditional woodworking techniques.
I am interested in using electronics, sound, and movement to facilitate interactions that feel magical. While I am interested in all sorts of whimsical interactive systems, I find myself in the Augmented Instruments Lab zooming in on musical instruments as the primary medium of exploration. I value material-oriented interactions, using analog and digital electronics to enhance and augment physical systems rather than replace them. I have most recently been exploring the use of sensors, feedback, and electromagnetic actuation to make sound with strings, tines, and other resonant objects. Outside of the lab, I enjoy playinging bass guitar, making robotic/kinetic/interactive art, and playing for the Imperial College London Ice Devils hockey team.
